Donny's Leg

A couple of months ago my friendDonny lost his leg. I've seen him now and again since then - but today was the first time I have seen him vertical! He's still planning to return to work in a few weeks.

In the picture he is pointing to some of the switches in the knee of his prosthesis. The whole thing is connected to sensors and computer operated by on-board, battery-operated correction motors to help him walk. He only uses a cane while he's at home. It's amazing how much the engineering of artificial limbs has improved in the last thirty years.
