Sculpture
A group of us went to the Ron Mueck exhibition at the Christchurch Art Gallery, Te Puna o Waiwhetu, today. I was absolutely astounded by the art works. I had seen photos of his work, but nothing could compare to actually going and standing in a room with them. I wanted to blip something that could help show the phenomenal detail in his work. This is the hand from the sculpture of the baby. It looks frighteningly life like, the very image of a new born straight from her mother's womb, yet the sculpture itself is probably taller than I am.
His detail is so amazing that I wanted to touch each and every sculpture in one way or another. Hair, moles, spittle - it's all there, and looks so realistic that you expect each of them to talk to you (or in the case of the baby, cry).
I really can't express what an incredible experience it was.
