Turn around
There comes a moment every year about this point in January where I suddenly realise that something amazing has happened.
The days are getting longer!
Although the winter days at this latitude are short, and sometimes in the last weeks of December it often feels that the sun has abandoned us all together, it doesn't take long for the light to creep back.
I like to think (and this theory has no scientific basis whatsoever) that it's like being on the end of a big elastic band that's been stretched as far as it can go and then starts to spring back. The bit at the end has to start moving first and gathers most speed. Or maybe it's something to do with extremes and small variations being more noticeable.
Anyway, whatever my daft explanations, today was the day that I noticed the sun hang around just that little bit longer.
