Trametes Versicolor

Here's the pretty fungi growing on an old beech chopping block in the garden, that I mentioned in my blip yesterday. It's clearly a bracket fungus and I'm pretty sure it's a Trametes versicolor, common name may be rainbow bracket fungus or turkey tail, although that depends where you are in the world. It has a velvety appearance, with distinct brown and white zones on its upper surface. Inedible but quietly going about the vital job of decomposing the rotting wood and returning vital nutrients to the soil.

Some people say the largest living things on the planet are giant honey fungus which can grow to be miles across but are all one organism connected through an intricate network of underground veins. But not this one, it's just a baby, ahhh.
