Although Orlando is named after a cat I wouldn't describe him as feline, he's more like a gymnastic puppy. That said, I fully expect him to grow up to be as noble as his namesake, Orlando The Marmalade Cat.

Our girl cat was brought into the family to address the male/female balance in our house when I found out I was expecting a third boy. Finlay and I chose her together and he named her Flower Puss. When people ask him what kind of cat she is, he says "she's a rescue cat" - a breed all of her own.

She is very much loved.

I sometimes question her intelligence as she is patient with the children beyond belief. She is constantly woken from her sleep, hauled out of sunbathing spots, shoved out the cat flap into the rain, put into boxes and chased. She rarely complains.

Today Orlando was being kind to her. He sat with her in one of her favourite spots and read her a book about mice.

Maybe she lives for these moments.
