Day 7: Nepal
We are now in the Hinku valley and the devastation of the 1996 is all to apparent. A glacial lake up the valley broke through the moraine and 16 million cubic metres of water flooded the valley. Several people were killed and the valley that was once a beautiful wooded place was scoured and littered with house sized boulders. Several of the party are suffering with D'n'V and it was a hell of an effort to get up to the village of Tangnag. On the way there we were "detained" over lunch by Maoist revolutionaries how charged us £10 for passage and sold us Pringles and Mars Bars, they apologised for being out of Diet Coke. I still have the receipt I got from the Revolutionary Maoist Party Of Nepal.
