How close is macro?

I spent an hour this morninge experimenting with cameras and lenses and the macro setting on my Canon and Panasonic cameras, really to see how close I could focus. I've been thinking about the `2011 challenge' which starts next week. So how close is macro? I think it's a question that I need to ask on the forum.

Interestingly I could get in closer with the Canon (Sigma 18-200mm) than I could with the Panasonic ( 14-45mm). Thinking `macro' is a good project for me as it's not something I've ever done in an exploratory way.

Spent lunchtime with my mum & dad and brother, but the rain and dismal greyness left me pleased that I hadn't decided to take my blip at Cannon Hall.
