It was either that or some wobbly car lights from the journey home.

Not really a patch on the pros, but with no SLR or telephoto lens, I went for holding the compact to the eyepiece of the small reflector telescope I've had kicking about for about 30 years, fire off a load of shots and pick the least blurry.

Saw a shooting star while out there as a bonus.
