It's called Gin Eye
It can't be a bad day if you end up in Brambles sampling some fine gin. And that sums today up nicely.
Ok, so it was a productive day, but the main event was Brambles and some good chat. A close second came the ideal combination of low light (again, in Brambles), the 40D and the faithful 1.4 50mm. So much fun.
As for the gin, I had a lovely Cadenhead Old Raj with Fentiman's Tonic and a slice of lemon (it's best with grapefruit, which left the barman apologising after running out from the night before)* and L had a Mint 500 (bl**dy flash websites - hit menu, then scroll to the bottom, you'll find it there). A good start.
Then moved on to the bar staff's recommendations, I went with a Heyman's Old Tom and Fentiman's tonic, L sampling the Bols Genever (another bl**dy flash website, why does she keep picking the drinks with the flash websites) and Schweppes tonic. Now, my Old Tom was nice and refreshing, a nice g&t. L's was, hmmmm, how best to put it, hmmmm, malty. Yup, that's about right. I've just read on their flashshite that it is a special, protected product - like Champagne, Scottish Malt Whisky, and Arbraoth Smokies (to name a few) - and I say good on them, you don't want anyone else making that pi... you need to protect these local specialities.
Still, it's good to try things once and all. L said it had grown on her by the end, but conceded that she would probably definitely not order it again.
Bring on the Scotch Malt Whisky Society tomorrow.
* Reminds me of a slightly mellower version of the saffron gin I have at home, must get some Fentiman's tonic to accompany that
