~Third Church of Christ, Scientist~
~A Building In Tucson, Arizona~
This religion has as its foundation a prayer-based healing through the practice of Christian Science, which has been going on in Arizona for over 110 years. The founder of the church was Mary Eddy Baker (1821-1910). In 1866 Mary Eddy Baker had a severe fall on an icy sidewalk which left her in critical condition. She asked for her Bible and, while reading an account of Jesus' healing, she found herself suddenly and miraculously healed. She referred to this as the moment she discovered Christian Science. Over the years Mary Eddy Baker taught her system of healing to hundreds of men and women who in turn established successful healing practices across the United States and abroad. She was disappointed that existing Christians churches would not embrace her discovery. So in 1879 she secured a charter for the Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
I am not associated with this religion, but I found the story interesting as I knew nothing about it. I must admit that I am in love with this building, I've photographed it before and will continue to do so in the future.
As interesting side note, about 15 years ago my girlfriend at the time, who was an opera singer and gospel singer, was hired by a Christian Scientist church in Southern California to sing at a service. She got up on stage and waited for the musical prelude to finish. Opera singers take very deep breaths prior to the first note to be sung. She commenced to take that breath in, along with a very unhappy moth. Her performance was temporarily postponed for several minutes while the offending creature attempted to gain its freedom. We later joked that "Someone" was not too pleased that she cancelled her usual Episcopal Church performance to do this better paying gig.
Hey, thanks for stopping by for a look and a read.
Hope I didn't go on for too long?
