Craigmillar Castle
Edinburgh's less famous castle is nevertheless, according to Historic Scotland one of the most perfectly preserved castles in Scotland. As with many other castles it started as a tower house in the 14th century and was added to by its owners over the years. Its major claim to fame was that Mary Queen of Scots once stayed there as a guest. On this occasion she was more fortunate than the poor soul who was discovered as a skeleton, walled up in the basement in an upright position.
