Alder catkins
It's actually been quite mild lately and I started to notice hazel catkins at the weekend. Today we had wonderful sunshine and the catkins on the alder trees near the office were open.
The little round seedheads stay on all winter and are a major source of food for finches, especially siskins, redpolls and goldfinches.
