Clare's Symi

Nowhere but Symi?

Not a beautiful shot or even a very interesting one but it does serve to illustrate two important things about Symi.

The first is that most of the buildings here are so small that when someone sets up a shop it is necessary to display at least some, if not most, of the stock on the street and then undertake the laborious task of carrying it all outside and then back in every time the shop is opened and then closed again.

This brings me to the second point and one which I feel is very important as it definitely contributes to the quality of life we have here, it's also the reason for the title of this Blip. When I took this snap both the clothes shop and flower shop were closed for their lunch/siesta break. As you can see, however, there is stock still outside the shops and neither of the retailers will expect to return and find these items ransacked or stolen. I won't and can't say that there is no crime on Symi but it is an awful lot safer than most places and that makes it a little easier to sleep at night.
