The island of dead boats
Two islands upstream from Taggs Island (3 if you count the tiny Duck Ait) is Platts Eyot. Eyot or Ait are names for many of the islands on the River Thames.
Platts has a glorious history. The Thornycroft Motor Torpedo Boats of the 1940's were all built there, the first electric launches came from Platts in the late 1800's and there is still some boatbuilding on the island.
It is also home to some sad old vessels. This is an old Admiralty Pinnace from around the 1930's. Now derelict, sitting on the bottom and you can see where nature is claiming her wood back with a tree growing out of the transom.
