Swann's Way

The old farmyard on a cold morning; the bright sunshine has not yet melted the overnight frost.

The buildings on the left, formerly cowsheds and stables, bear an engraved date of 1760 together with the initials I.W., presumably the owner at the time.

The building on the right would have been used to keep carts and haywains, hence the size of the openings. There is a stone stairway up the side leading to storage lofts above.

This was a large mixed farm until the 60s. Subsequently most of the land was sold and the place became more gentrified. This included turfing over this once-cobbled yard.

The buildings still have a variety of uses - log shed, hay store, accommodation for ducks and chickens, while the door on the far left leads into the woodcraft workshop of someone named Swanny. Over the past couple of years his comings and goings have worn a path which I can only think of as... Swann's Way.
