This mansion is in the middle of Buile Hill park and this is the port-cochere - a very unusual feature for a mansion. You can read its history here. It was already closed when I arrived in September 2004. There was then a plan to redevelop the building as an hotel. However, as the months wore on, more and more of the park was being taken up for hotel uses - and thus be closed to the public. A fine rolling green which you have seen in my blips a number of times with dog walkers, a fair, dancing, car boot sales and cricket matches was to be tarmacked over for a car park.

Well that was enough of that and we locals stamped our little feet and managed to get Lottery funding refused. However, that hasn't solved the problem of what to do with the house. With cuts being implemented on all fronts, there is not likely to be much doing for a considerable period of time.
