Life of a toaster

Hullowrerrchina!

Wandering around the doomed Shawlands Arcade, there's a nice mural painted on tiles by pupils from the nearby Academy. Sadly the mural is wasted, hiding in a passageway out to the car park.

I remember the Arcade as a kid, back in all its 70's brick-and-concrete-slabbing glory. Moved away from the area, but then was amused to find the arcade cropping up on a Scottish Screen Archive video I bought, a local planning utopia exercise called Glasgow 1980. It was a vision of the city's future viewed from 1970. There's a strangely poignant shot of a football bouncing across the old arcade's internal courtyard. It looked like urban wasteland even then.

Quite a good day overall, started painting the cornicing and had some fantastic king prawns for lunch, then dusted the kilt down for Edinburgh tomorrow night. The drams last night went well, by the way. Penderyn, the Welsh malt, is a very intriguing beast.
