Swan NBV

Sorry folks, not so much of a pictorial image today, more of a record shot.

I decided to get up-close and personal with a swan this afternoon.

The local pond is still mostly frozen over but is only large enough to support just one resident pair of swans. This harsher weather and the constant procession of mothers + toddlers + bread has temporarily attracted 4 more swans to this park.

The resident pair are aggressively posturing against the intruders but not actually declaring war on them so their presence is tolerated though it is made clear that they are 'persona non grata'.

One of the incomers has an identification leg band. I'm not sure what to do with it though - should someone be notified?


The frozen water is forcing many of the birds to come close to the shore where the only open water remains so I thinnk I shall re-visit this park over the next few days.
