Thistle Down

By Ethel

Upward Reach

Some men take their lives,
And build them through the years.
Others smear them in the dust,
Of sin, and hate, and tears.

Some men seek their fortunes,
For wealth, and power, and fame.
While others live...a thoughtless role,
With never a worthwhile aim.

Some there are with stepping stones,
To pattern out their way.
And some who fall in treacherous pits,
Where the imps of Satan play.

Others travel on life's path,
Where inclines seldom rise.
Darkness seals the vision,
That comes to blinded eyes.

All men sight their thorough-fares,
And by their efforts teach.
But great is the man whose heights to God,
Is gained...by upward reach.
