Luckily I checkd before starting a bonfire. As I scraped of the damp leaves and top layer of soil, I uncovered a hibernating fron. If this is the same one who has been in my pond the last few years, she;s a big female. Obviously waiting for her suitors to arrive.

I gently covered her back over, and went back to setting up her pond.
