A present for Robbie

Been a bit of a non event day except for the stand in vicar forgetting us (the choir) in the vestry and starting the service without us!

Ached a bit this afternoon after yesterday's Shiatsu and fell asleep!

I took this picture this morning when I wasn't sure what I would be taking for a blip, so this is it!

It is a pocket compass made by Stanley of London in 1885 and was found in a market in Mumbai by my daughter and her boyfriend. They bought it as a first birthday present for John's first nephew Robert Stanley and we were charged with bringing it back from India and getting it inscribed before April. It has been sitting on the desk next to the computer ever since!

It is rather nice but we have been advised having it inscribed could effect the precision of the compass. We are now deliberating whether to try to remove the lid.
Any suggestions as to how to do this without causing damage?
