Geoduck Clam
This geoduck clam (pronounced "gooey-duck"), which grows only on the Pacific coast between lower British Columbia and far-Northern California, weighed two and a half pounds. Visiting Seattle and Tacoma for the first time, I had never heard of this kind of clam, so I searched it out. Seattle's large and famous Pike Place Market does not sell them because "nobody was buying them" since the 1970s. "Try Chinatown," I was told. Sure enough, I found one store in Chinatown that sold them. Expensive but good! I and an old freind made geoduck fritters; very tasty. BUT why on earth would these interesting, giant clams not be popular?
