Moss
Today I shocked myself, and Meles (and, I think Polly, Dennis and Bob) by deciding that what I really needed this morning was my first ever go in a kayak.
Well, I had tried it when I was about ten years old, but that was so long ago that I think that it was in a dug-out canoe, shaped with a flint adze....)
I did get the hang of it, eventually, and quite enjoyed it; although trying to get out onto the open water of the loch through a rim of ice was quite... err... challenging, for my first time on the water.
Later in the day, we went for a walk among the trees. With no leaves, the shapes in the woodland were amazing, especially where every tree was softened by moss, lichens and liverworts. Just beautiful. One day I hope to be able to do justice to this gnarled old oak.....
After the kayaking, I'm aching in several major muscle groups which have not been used since I don't know when...I've just had a deep hot bath, and backblipped the last couple of days, so I'm off to bed.
