Fingerboarding is a hobby generally enjoyed by boys ages 8-12 or so. Once they get old enough to get a real skateboard, they typically give it up.

I never skateboarded, but I saw this youtube video and thought it looked like fun.

It is fun, and what's more, it's one of the most useless skills anyone could ever possibly develop. It will never impress anyone, there's no money in it, you can't put it on a resume. It's beautiful! A great way to escape the tyranny of usefulness for a little while each day.

It reminds me of the sentiment expressed in Hard Day, another favorite of mine.

And for the record, the kid in the first video quit fingerboarding two months ago. He skateboards now. :)
