King of all he surveys...

This is Mukesh in his roadside shop. I pass him every day on the way to work, and figured that as he's part of my daily life at the moment, he should feature.

The 'shop' is on the Arneko highway which leads out of Kathmandu, and eventually to the Chinese border. Its like any number of roadside shops...corrugated iron and stocked with similar items. Its a precarious existence:- A couple of months ago a truck ploughed into it, which put him out of business until it got fixed!

Eventually however the road will put him, and many others like him out of business. The Arneko highway is slowly being widened into a six lane highway. The Nepal government owns the land immediately on either side of the existing road. The roadworks haven't reached Banepa yet...but they will!
