Mini murmurations
At this time of year the starlings (Sturnis vulgaris) flock together in murmurations before they roost - spectacular moving balls and shapes of thousands sometimes hundreds of thousands of birds. There are various places in Britain where one can watch these magical displays, one of them being the Somerset Levels. This photograph was taken up the lane and there are probably only a thousand or two starlings in this group. I have noticed them in the mornings and evenings over the last few weeks roosting in our trees on the farm. The number of starlings in Britain is declining but at this time of year many fly over from Scandanavia and Russia for overwintering in a suppposedly warmer climate.
A business working lunch today. Our neighbour wants to buy a small corner of our land next to his house so we have sought advice from a professional. It is a fairly complicated situation!
A new calf was born in the night, a heifer, which Tim discovered first thing this morning. Mother and baby doing fine!
