Tenebrio molitor

This is Tenebrio Molitor .. or the mealworm as it is more commonly known.

The mealworm name is a actually incorrect, as it is not a worm at all, but the larvae of the Flour Beetle. It is a holometabolic insect, as in it has four distinct life stages, namely: egg-larvae-pupa-adult.

The female of the species can lay up to 500 eggs from just one mating.

All in all, and interesting little insect, or as it is known to my back garden Robin ... food!
