24,000 bags of heather cuttings will be spread across 1.6 million square metres of bare and eroding peat to encourage the growth of a protective layer of vegetation.

To minimise the damage to moorland, bags will be delivered by helicopter. A massive operation - one of the biggest ever conservation projects undertaken.
