The Lizard Meanders

Today's Blip isn't anything particularly fancy or inspired as I have a ton of things to do before I leave for my conference next week. Photo is of a miniature hand-bound book I made late last summer -- I made several of these, each one of a kind, and even sold a few... This one has a cover and cord of Italian leather, and interior pages of sepia-toned art paper.

I'd learned how to hand-bind books many years ago in Baguio, including several Japanese book binding styles for journals and accordion-fold books. I love the smell and heft and texture of paper, love to feel the grain, love to crack open the spine of a new book and feel its deckled edges.

Today was pretty low-key: read a bit of Akhmatova after a late breakfast; went for a haircut at noon, made two meals for freezing for a couple of nights in the week ahead.

Went over next door to help youngest daughter's bff with her science fair project (we are her guinea pigs, and tomorrow they will be ours, for our girl's science fair project).

Saw a cardinal in the bushes.

Changed the sheets.

Went to dinner at a local restaurant; had a fizzy pear-tini. And we had a huge bowl of mussels in herbed garlic broth, with a half hunk of bread to go with. Asked for butter, which never came. In the end, it did not matter.

And here is "Recurrence", my poem in response to today's The Morning Porch, now up on Via Negativa.
