A day in Brussels

As I mentioned yesterday, we did go to Brussels today. Playing tourist in your country of residence... It is difficult to pick one shot out of the many I took today. So if you want to have a look at the rest, click here to go to my Flickr account.

This is a photo taken inside on of the spheres of the Atomium. The Atomium was the main pavilion and icon of the World Fair of Brussels (1958), commonly called Expo 58. At 102 metres high, with its nine interconnected spheres, it represents an elementary iron crystal enlarged 165 billion (thousand million) times.

We had never been to see it... shame on us. It is such a magnificent building! After being mesmerised we had a stroll in the surrounding Astrid park and finally drove into Brussels town center as the girls also wanted to see "Manneke Pis".

Before we saw him though we went to the very authentic cafe called: "Het Goudblommeke in Papier". Very atmospheric, this little cafe used to play host to some famous Belgian Artists (Magritte for example). The cafe has a website if you're interested...
