Purple Sandpiper
Today we went birdwatching up the Northumberland Coast with Martin Kitchen of NEWT. It was a bit grey and dull but there was still plenty of birdlife to be seen, especially on the mudflats behind the tides. This Purple Sandpiper was feeding with its partner on an outcrop near Bamburgh Castle - they would wait till a wave broke over the rocks and then scurry about picking bits of food out of the receding water.
