The Comfy Chair
I had fun lolling about in the big leather armchair. Dad took lots of photos, but this was his and Mum's favourite. Mum and Dad picked me up from Gran and Papa's just after lunch, and we went to the Fort to buy me some new shoes. We found a very nice pink pair - my feet are too big now for the "First Shoes" range at Clarks, so we had to choose from the big girl shoes. Most of them were black school shoes, but Mum refused to buy me a pair like that, because if you can't wear colourful shoes when you're two, when can you wear them? In fact, I wanted a pair of rainbow shoes, but they didn't have any of those.
We've all been a bit unwell this week. Everyone has a cold. I have been saying "I'm not feeling very well" and doing theatrical "a-choo" sneezes a lot. My mummy was coughing and snezzing earlier. I said to her, "mummy, do you have a cold?". She said yes, she did. So then I asked her, "do you have a hot?". For some reason, her and Dad thought that was very funny.
Orla knows lots of nursery rhymes now, but sometimes she gets a bit confused. In the car today, she treated us to the following ditty:
Three little dickie birds sitting on a wall,
One named Jack, the other named Jill.
Fly away Jack, fly away Jill,
Come back Jack, come back Jill.
I was doing some work this evening, and she wanted to write in my notebook. I wrote three words, all of which she recognised immediately - Orla, mummy and daddy. I asked her what the words were, and then I asked her what the first letter of each word was. She correctly identified them as o, m and d.
We also had a very amusing conversation after her dinner:
Orla: Mummy, what are you doing?
Me: I'm working.
Orla: You working?
Me: Yes, mummy has a job. And daddy has a job.
Orla: Daddy has a job?
Me: Yes, and when you're a big girl, you'll have a job. What do you think it will be? Would you like to be an astronaut, and ride in a rocket?
Orla: Yes! And go to the moon!
Me: Or you could fly a plane?
Orla: No! I want to ride in a rocket! Like Peppa and George! Into space.
So that's settled then. An astronaut it is.
