So.....what do you see?

I am a green stem
And I hide in the dark
In a protective cocoon
Till it's time to depart
Then I push myself up
I am powerful and strong
And I nurture, create
To new life I belong

And when I reach up
To my ultimate height
And open my arms
And show you my sight
I'm hidden below
Where no one can see
I've given my gift
To you from me

So next time you see
The most beautiful flowers
With their heavenly scent
And their rainbow of colours
Please look at the stem
Don't just glance - take your time
Because, sometimes it's nice
Just for once, stems to shine.
