Jittery Singers Make Bands Fun
Went to a show, the first of three this weekend for me. Went intending to see Zephuros and Russenorsk and got a lot more than I bargained for. The show was amazing! I had seen Zephuros play before and was looking forward to seeing him perform again, and had been recommended Russenorsk by a friend. A day or so before the show, a message was sent around to those planning on attending the show. One of the bands who was supposed to perform, Esskyma, had a schedule conflict, and had been replaced on the bill with a band who was already planning on being in town for another show.
This is the lead singer in a Michigan-based pop/experimental/indie band called Mason Proper, the band that replaced Esskyma. From their first song, I was impressed. Jonathan Visger, pictured above, performed in his socks, played guitar, tambourine, and clap sticks (i think that's what they're called, but i wasn't a percussionist so please correct me or forgive me) along with singing and constantly moving. I think i managed to take about 20 pictures of him and the band and only two came out because of the constancy of his movement. Still an amazing show!
Band List:
She Bears
Mason Proper
Zephuros, also a blipper
Russenorsk
Fun fact: The violin player/accordion player of She Bears is the lead singer/guitar player/accordion player in Russenorsk!
This shot was taken at 11:56pm!
She took a deep breath and moved down the alley. The wind picked up and blew her hair into her face. The girl pushed her hair out of the way and continued walking. She passed three guys leaning up against the wall. The tallest one grinned, then opened his mouth to say something. She met his eyes and his smile died. He turned his head back to his friends and the girl walked past without any more attention. She didn't have time to deal with tough guys with nothing better to do.
