Ely Cathedral dominates the low- lying countryside in which it is set and can be seen for many miles riding the sky like a great ship . People often ask why such a vast church was built in such a small town. In fact the Cathedral came first. When it was built Ely was a small settlement, the town grew up around the Cathedral.
