My first...
BLOOD TEST!
I've always been fairly healthy. Until I reached 18.
And so I've never had the need for a blood test.
Until today.
Woke up with a sore and sore throat, something which I have become accustomed to this past week and a half. Took a Strepsil and got on with things. Went to school, felt fine, had my break, antibiotic and a full bottle of water (well the antibiotic label says take with plenty of water!)
About half an hour after break I felt unbearably sick, so went to the School Nurse as I didn't want to see half digested grapes and melon.
Wee Nuala was lovely and I just felt so crap I sat down and cried (I always cry when someone asks me whats wrong, and I ALWAYS cry in the Nurse's office). She asked what was wrong and I said about nausea and that I'd taken my antibiotics and my ear etc was still sore.
So Nuala being Nuala had a wee nosey in my ear (which is a bit red), looked down my throat (left tonsil is HUUUUGE and general throat area is red and inflammed) and apparently my glands are still massive! I can no longer tell if my glands are swollen as I can't remember a time when they weren't!
So she asked all these questions and said that 10 days was too long for swollen glands and "not to alarm you but there is a lot of Glandular Fever going round the school". Cue me crying again. So she phoned my mum who was far from sympathetic (she apologised later) and then phoned the doctors.
In the process a poor little second year was in with a temperature and stomach pain, and hadn't a clue what we were talking about. Poor mite, she looked really unwell and the nurse was putting a stupid Upper Sixth who can't phone the doctor for herself in front of her. Whilst we were on the phone Michael Buble was the music of choice whilst we waited, and Nuala put it on loudspeaker so we could all listen. Then a first year came to the door with tonsils the size and colour of golf balls. Nurse said they were all pitted and I mentioned that girl on Embarrassing Bodies with pitted tonsils. Cue a look of fear from first former.
Anyway, got through to surgery who said to phone back at two for an appointment.
Phoned bang on 13.59. Was on hold until 14.13 (I counted) and by that time all appointments were gone. So a doctor phoned who said I have classic signs of Glandular Fever and to come down at 4pm for a blood test and to go straight to the treatment room and not wait in the waiting room in case I was still contagious.
I was WEEING myself with fear as I'm not a huge fan of anything that may hurt.
Blood test was absolutely fine, no pain, the nurse just chatted tripe.
A doctor came to print something and the nurse asked her to check me over. Apparently I can say I have Glandular Fever as I have all the symptoms, blood test is just a formality. However, its running its course. It peaked last Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and so I was most contagious then, so anyone who was near me then should WATCH OUT!
So now I'm very proud of myself that I didn't cry, and I'm going to reward myself by watching some chick flicks and feeling miserable about myself and the fact that I may have infected some of my very dear friends.
Waow this has been a looooong entry. Kinda buzzing from the adrenaline that comes with getting something over with you've been dreading.
Kisses!
