How Was Your Trip?

I waited for an hour to get photos of the Schooner Zodiac's new masts being delivered today -- a journey of 195.6 miles from the Spar Shop in Aberdeen, Washington. My chosen location was just before the last 90-degree turn in Fairhaven, a half mile from the journey's end.

I got a few shots of the truck approaching me, entering the intersection, and starting to turn. When the cab reached about a 45-degree angle, the trailing end of the mast hit a parked pickup truck, denting the door and shattering the window. The driver tried to move forward and back, but the mast was jammed against the pickup.

It was chaotic for a while. The owner of the pickup came out of his office across the street, the police arrived, Zodiac staff inspected the mast, and pedestrians stood around taking photos. After 45 minutes, several men bent the mast away from the pickup and the owner backed it clear, allowing the truck to complete its trip.
