Days Gone By

The day was dry but lots of low cloud and mist across the valley. This whole area is scattered with disused railway routes dating from the late 1880s once used for the transport of stone and minerals from the surrounding quarries. Many of these old routes have now been made into cycle tracks and walking routes.

Our walk took us up onto Middleton Top where there is the remains of the original Engine House which hauled the carriages up a track on a 1:8 incline. Quiet a feat.

The weather didn't clear, so no view. This was taken not far from the Engine House showing an old truck and signal at the top of the incline.

I decided to make it B&W to give a 'lonely' sort of feel to the area.
