The Solitude of the Raven
I've alway been intrigued by the symbolic qualities of the raven, rook and crow.. signifying both life and death and the bringing of ill fate and bad tidings..
I came across this sorry, dead bird today, breathless and crushed on the tarmac , no life left to give, it's claws clenched in defiance and it reminded me of the mesmerising Tokyo photographer Masahisa Fukase and this is my homage to him.. I'm sure after the departure of his wife, Yoko, he would have loved to have shot this scene as he sank deeper into his solitary despair---- 'loved' is the wrong word maybe he would have been driven to respond to this situation. He has remained in a coma for fifteen years now.. This saddens me on a day when I feel so good to be alive in this glorious sunshine with my wife and daughter with me...
