Sand!!
So today I took a trip out into the desert.
It wasn't quite as pristine and unspoiled as I thought it would be. After leaving the city we began to pass larger and larger oil and gas plants, and then some more, and then some more..... we finally arrived at the beginning of the sand dunes, and began spotting quad bikes parked up at the edge of the road.
The whole area is essentially a massive play ground, from people fishing and kite surfing in the sea, to people on camels, quad bikes, scramblers, buggy's and land cruisers flying up and down the dunes.
How more people aren't injured or killed is a bit of mystery, as we saw several near misses whilst we were there. Land cruisers would be driving up one side of the dune and would meet the quad bikes coming up the other side, you just had to hope that they weren't at the top at the same moment.
The dunes are HUGE, I tried to blip them but unfortunately there is no sense of scale and so I've decided to put this blip up instead, which shows one of the buggy's rounding the bottom of a dune whilst a local looks on. He then jumped in his land cruiser, did a doughnut or two and sped off into the sand.
