Ticking Away the Moments

Newport

After the excitement of the rugby on Friday, (see backblip here) we needed an easier day today.

We met up with friends in Newport for lunch at Wetherspoon's before leaving the men to watch another rugby match on TV while Rosie and I went for coffee at Starbucks. Just as we got there, I remembered the need for a blip and these amazing statues were just what I wanted!

They were created by Christopher Kelly in 1991 to commemorate the Chartists uprising of 1839. Twenty people died when soldiers clashed with demonstrators demanding political reform. The sculpture is positioned outside the scene of the violence, the Westgate Hotel, where High Street, Commercial Street and Bridge Street meet.

So now you know! They're actually quite difficult to photograph as when you get further away to get all of them in the picture, you end up having lots of random passers by milling around in view.
