Avoid Opening the Curtains

Avoid opening the curtains.
Let your ears deceive you
that the fall you hear
is the waterforce of a nearby river
flowing from a hill.

Leave them closed
a while longer, eyelids draped
against a window to the day.
Make believe their yellow folds
are the brightness of the sun.

Avoid opening the curtains
for, once seen, you can't ignore
that it's only the rain you're hearing
and the view flatly contains
no mountains of forgiveness.
