Thistle Down

Grandpa Laughed

My Grandpa Laughed,
Always at funny things.
Especially did he laugh,
At birds with golden wings.

He laughed at the goose,
Who laid the golden egg.
Of the wobbly old grey man,
Who had a wooden leg.

My Grandpa laughed out loud,
He was tickled-pink...they say.
When he took my Grandma,
In the one-horse shay.

He laughed when his bird-trap,
Slipped off its string.
And then the phonograph,
Flipped off its spring.

My Grandpa always laughed,
And when he died.
All of us who loved him,
Stood back and cried.
