Master of all he surveys!

A busy day, lots to catch up on, but still managed a walk in the sunshine. This is the main road through the village. No, I'd better correct that - it is the only road through the village! And can it really be called a village if it is really just a row of cottages? No school, church, shop or pub. There used to be a phone box until relatively recently, but now there is just a post box!

In the 1840s, when it was built, there was a thriving herring fishery here. There were cooperages making barrels, a pub, a hotel, a school, a poorhouse and a church! When the herring fishing stopped, it was the end of the village. Mostly us incomers living here now, just two local couples and neither of them have any offspring. Such a lovely spot, just a bit too far away from the bright lights and employment opportunities for some folk. Which isn't such a bad thing . . . . !
