Saatchi Gallery
On Sunday morning we went to Saatchi Gallery in its new location in Sloane Square. I hadn't been to the Saatchi Gallery since Lozarithm took me when it first opened in the 80s.
I don't really follow modern art so didn't know what to expect, but I was really impressed.
First of all the building is absolutely superb as an art gallery. It's in a 19th century building which has been turned into a modern gallery without altering the basic structure of the building, or its external appearance. Every gallery is flooded with soft even light, even on a dull day.
I'd been expecting to see the famous pieces by Damien Hirst and Tracy Emin - the 'Young British Artists'. Instead every piece (apart from one) is 21st century. One of the most impressive installations was created last year.
I didn't like everything, but there was a lot I liked very much, such as Exstacy almond blossom and Christian Dior - J'Adore.
The one permanent installation in the Saatchi Gallery is the amazing 20:50 by Richard Wilson, made solely from used engine oil and steel. The oil is jet black and reflective.
