Tuesday morning at Dubai Creek

The Creek is the old heart of Dubai but over the past few years I reckon I've spent more time in Kuwait or Bahrain than by the Creek. This morning, having taken care of almost all our outstanding admin, I though I'd take a few farewell photos before we move to the Channel Islands.

Here we have a Pakistani boatman walking up the Bur Dubai side of the Creek. It's winter here and the temperature when I took the picture was about 22 degrees celcius, so he'll be glad of his jacket. In the summer it'll be nudging 50 celcius. Beyond him is an abra taking passengers across from Deira; on the far side are dhows from the other emirates, Pakistan, and maybe Iran and other Gulf states. The wharfs hidden behind the ships in this photo are an impressive sight - maybe I'll try to go over there tomorrow!
