Happy Chinese New Year!

As you may already know, we are in the middle of Chinese New Year. Today, I attended a celebration and was treated to a lion dance. In Chinese culture, lion dances are used to scare away the evil spirits and bring luck. As payment to the lions, a cabbage, symbolizing money and wealth, with a red envelope tucked inside is given. After the lion dancers remove the red envelope, the cabbage is teared up and thrown out at the crowd as to "spread the wealth". The saying is, if you are hit with the flying leaves, you will have luck in the coming year. I did not get hit with anything..sadness.
