Here be monsters

Slightly tenuous link here but this awesome tree looked like it should have something cool living in it. No real signs of anything though. I would live in it if I were small enough.

We attended a talk tonight by Charles Paxton, the man who makes statistics interesting. He spoke about sea monsters and the chances of finding any undiscovered large (over 6ft) creatures in the sea or in fresh water. The good news is that his research shows there are still things out there waiting to be discovered.

He also spoke about the length that giant squids could grow to, and the lengths that they have been claimed to get to - 175ft apparently! Unfortunately that is not very likely. Shame.
