the way they do things here
Whilst the levels of beepy in the streety might be far beneath those in Cairo there's still plenty of traffic, most of which feels it is the most important thing in the world. Much as many drivers aren't aware of the wee bit about priority lying with a pedestrian who is already crossing a road the driver is approaching and wants to turn into, many drivers think that pedestrians are legally-bound to get the fuck out of their way, not that they should never assume that a pedestrian's speed and direction are constant and that it is the driver's obligation to accelerate to ensure the pedestrian is only cleared by the merest whisker. A private hire car is seldom inclined to give a bicycle travelling in the same direction as and only slightly more slowly than the private hire car more than an inch so it's surprising that this one didn't deliberately swerve into the left-hand lane after the parked vehicles out of shot to the right, claiming that it was aiming to park in front of where I was standing and that it thought David was going to get out of the way. In an adjustment to the previous similar road-impeding scenario enacted a couple of David-visits ago, EcoDad was holding the umbrella this time a little way up the lane opposite whilst TFP was safely on the pavement. It would a shame if he had escaped the tanks, threatening uniformed moustaches and travel-disruption of Cairo only to be damaged by the ostensibly more civilised components of his home town.
