Looks Good To Me

A WIndy Rain Festival

I made a special trip to Fairhaven this morning for the annual Pacific Northwest Rain Festival. It should have been a wind festival -- there'd been a forecast of 25-35 mph winds with gusts to 50 mph, and I think it must have been fairly accurate. Not surprisingly, there were only a handful of spectators.

The event features a poetry contest (the subject has to be rain), and a rain gear contest for adults and kids. There's also a weather prediction based on the wetness of the pug, Mattie. The reigning Rain Queen, Dianne, declared Mattie to be dry, which means that we're going to have eight weeks of rain before spring. If she'd been wet, we'd only have to suffer seven weeks of rain.

The fellow at the microphone is a local artist masquerading as Dirty Dan Harris, the legendary founder of Fairhaven. The lady on the right is Taimi, Mattie's owner. It's pretty obvious which one is Queen Dianne, and the other two ladies are members of the Ladies of the Evening Society. I don't know who the background lurker is -- C thought he might be an axe-murderer.

The Fairhaven website is quite interesting.

p.s. I just noticed my blip one year ago was about wind.
